Bra advice -- not Victoria's
Looking for advice on protective bra for 911 91' C2. I have a shot at a Colgan bra but have no idea if that's a good one or what is considered to be the "best" out there and why. Thanks

I've had a Colgan for 2 years and if used right it's a good bra,by right I don't use it in the rain ( trunk leaks ) and I don't leave it on all the time. The fit is real good and it holds up very well.Sometimes I just use the trunk piece, that looks pretty cool and keeps rocks from the most likely place for them to hit.

Keep in mind that once you put a bra on your car, you are married to it forever. Driving on the highway, no matter how well it fits, will cause it to vibrate and slap against the paint over and over, slowly marring and rubbing away the finish. Then there's the moisture that will live under it, holding water against your paint and never really drying.
You will take the bra off in a year and notice that there is a dull, faded imprint of the bra on your paint, no matter how hard you try to avoid this, and even if you take it off every time you wash. I would look at the 3M clear stick on bras if you are concerned about rock chips, etc. At least these will keep the paint looking normal. Hope this helps. I have now gotten down off my soapbox, let the flames begin! Nick. ------------------ __________ Nick Shumaker 1982 911SC Coupe |

Nick -- I plan to use the bra infrequently -- only when I drive on the Xway -- if I take it off after each time, do you think I'll still damage the paint?? Thanks

This issue has been brought up many times before
I have had a Colgan BRA on my SC for over 2 years here in vegas where It gets 120'+ and have had no problems at all with damage, at high temps it does make the car run hotter since the bra blocks air to my front cooler Colgan fits like a glove and does not move at freeway speeds , I also keep a layer of unbuffed wax under to protect the paint I can't say how many times a bra has protected my paint after some truck throws a bunch of rocks at my car, its definately worth the extra effort Jeff 78SC |

I was informed on another BB that magbra was a very good product -- try www.magbra.com if you're interested.

I just ordered a Mag-bra. I, too, have heard good things. Granted, it doesn't cover the bumper but the hood is my main concern. I like the idea of NO flapping or movement in the wind, as well as easy remove-ability, no clips, etc. My car rarely sees rain so I'm not too concerned about moisture under the contact surface. Once I get it and live with it for a while, I'll post my thoughts.
Thanks, Mike 94 C2 cab |

If you just use it to keep rock chips down on the track, etc, then yes, its probably ok. I was referring to leaving it on most all the time.

I have also ordered a MagBra. I have a similar (magnetic) product that protects the tank on my Ducati 900 motorcycle. It works pretty good.
I was not too worried about a conventional bra ruining my paint as I was not going to keep it on all the time. But the ease of attaching and removing the MagBra was important to me. Will post a "product report" after I take a drive through a gravel pit ![]() Regards, Doug '81 SC |

I have a bra available for the 90 to 94 C2 (it should fit all 964s except the turbo bodies). I will also throw in the mirror bras for the nonturbo mirrors. I believe they are Colgans but will double check. The bra has the necessary venting that match the stock C2 front bumper cap.
I am currently Porscheless. Let me know if you're interested. I'm about to post on ebay. /John |
