brake fluid leak
wow...I tell you the problems never seem to end with this car. Just when i think that im close to getting the car on the road I find something wrong. Ok lets see the problem is that somehow im getting brake fluid inside the car at the pedal cluster, right where the brake pedal is. It basicly floods up the cluster then leaks underneath the car. Is there some sort of gasket in that area that im not aware of. The leak is not coming from any of the brake lines. I added a few pictures to give you guys an idea of what im talking about.
Any ideas?

master cylinder. I think the 76 is non-boosted and the m/c is on the other side of the firewall at pedal level. Fluid at the pedal box is a standard symptom of a failed m/c.

Like Tony says.
Man, you have to give that pedal cluster TLC; lots of problems waiting there. Why are people surprised that a 30 year old car needs lots of maintenance?

yes - and clean, derust, prime & paint the pedal cluster area
- refurb the pedal cluster itself (there will be a LOT of rust on the bottom of the cup); I plated the thing. BTW - this is a great time to replace the rubber brake hoses with new ones. DON'T give up - typically, people fix a bunch of stuff on a used car, then sell it out of frustration -- the new buyer has a nearly new car then. |
