1977 911 S windshield replacement

Where is the preferred place to purchase a new windshield for my 911?

Thanks,

Nathan

here is some info on windshields.
The original suppliers to Porsche were Sigla and Sekurit/ Sigla is gone, Sekurit was purchased by another huge corporation. so if having absolutely original labeled glass is a concern, fugetaboutit: Its hens teeth and will be ultra expensive.

Somewhere along the years, the DOT has allowed use of thinner glass. I cannot comment on how this makes the glass more fragile to rock chips; heck the outer layer gets nailed by debris no matter how thick it is, but perhaps they are more prone to cracking compared to yesteryear. The plus is that you carry a lil less weight and that minutely helps handling and acceleration
Most glass sold today comes from China. There is FYG and XYG brands. Some prefer the FYG brand because of better fit over the other. We have installed both and with the usual adjustments, spacers, they fit new oem weather seals just fine. The dealer sells the oe brand, and you pay a premium for it. For everyday use the chinese glass is fine. Every now and then some sneak thru with distortion, so don't accept it. Have them bring another one. They meet DOT standards and perhaps the perceived fragility is offset by low cost ($175-300 depending on where you live)

Hope this helps

I've replaced the seal before, but I didn't do the glass. I'm getting parts together to do a headliner replacement, so I thought now would be a good time to replace the stone chipped starred out glass. I hate to replace, because I think it is the original, but when I have a hard time seeing out of it when the light hits it just right, it's not safe.
