Can 18" wheels ever look good on an SC?

What do you guys think? There sure are a lot of tires to pick from.

I'd have to see pictures... but I'd err on the side of no.

Personally I think Fuchs (or replica Fuchs) are the best look for the SCs. The 17"s (Jeff Altons or Rotas) look quite nice and don't diminsh the classic look.

18"s with low-profile tires to me would start to scream "Pimp-my-Porsche," especially if chromed.

Then again, I'm a sucker for the classic look. To each his own I guess.

Yes, yes they can:

This is supercarrera81's car tha tI picked from another thread.

While the red highlights are questionable, IMO, the wheels look awesome.

EDIT:: The whole car looks awsome!!!

They might look good, but how well will the HP of a 911 SC 3.0L going through 915 gear ratios be able to pedal those 25" to 26" diameter tires????
With all due respect; When your older you'll think of the car 1st.

Ted, you realise that the stock tire diameter for most of the 911's we love is around 25", right?

maybe you meant 25 inch wheels?

I agree, forthe most part with others that Fuchs look best on the SC/Carrera year 911s. That is one of the reasons I went from Cups back to the Fuchs look on my SC.

Indeed, larger wheels generally run lower profile tires. In the end it often comes out to the same diameter. I.e. my 17 inch wheels with the Toyo RA-1 are larger diameter than my 18" wheels with the Toyo TR-1s.

They may look fine, but other factors come into play. Such as rolling fender lips. Different offsets, which change the scrub radius. Which may mean the car won't handle correctly without extensive (read expensive) suspension &/or alignment adjustments. Also, car may seem slower if there is any weight increase. Xtra weight, especially in wheels & tires can have a noticable effect on acceleration. IMHO, can't just slap em on & expect everything to be the same or better. Could be considerably worse.

NO...IF and when the SC maintains an original appearance. When the SC is converted to 964, 993 appearance then many Porsche styled 18's have an acceptable appearance. Some wheels and other wings, spoilers et al; end up looking like an unfortunate Fast and the Furious...ricer abomination.

Every car pictured above has had the impact bumpers removed. Once you remove all the black rubber and replace with painted bumpers (Ruf, 964, etc.), the larger wheels seem to fit better. Just my opinion.

Painting the chrome window trim black, how?

It's all a mess, pitted, scratched dull and nasty looking, how should I do it?

Paint it with a satin black paint. Wurth is good as well as 3M products.

The key is in the prep, obviously. You may want to look at just buying some black trim and replacing it.

EDIT: I see you've posted a ton of things wrong with your new car. I'm sorry that you are having such trouble. Stick with the Pelican group and we'll help you get it in good shape and a joy to drive.

If you had asked me this question a couple years ago, I would have thought that 18s look way too blingy. Cartoonish, even.

But, now, after I've seen it so many times (go over on the 930 forum, as several guys have gone to 18" wheels), it doesn't look so bad, if done properly.
