Butters Gets Some Sexy New Shades!

On my last road trip (a/c not running just now) I decided to have the windows tinted on Butters (81 coupe). It was a VERY hot 16 hour trip...

The guy who tinted the windows did a FABULOUS job - I love the color and the shade! Feels like the interior is 25 degrees cooler!

All my vehicles in the past ten years have received the full tint application. It was never overly dark, mainly for better night vision and to avoid any undue attention from the fuzz. I found that it kept the interior a bit cooler especially after sitting in a parking lot for a couple hours, but mostly it reduced the glare and eye strain that I would get even driving on an over cast day.

I chose to keep my 911 tint free, but do really appreciate that my Jeep is tinted.

It looks good on Butters. And probably will keep the interior looking good for a bit longer.

These are a little darker than they should be in Oregon, Paul, but not much. You can go much darker with a Doctor's note indicating light sensitivity.

I don't seem to get hassled for much of anything including my lack of front license plates on three of our cars. The spyder has also never had windshield wipers on it - and I've never been questioned on that one either.

I suspect that lack of attention is the result of compliant driving and being, ahem, of a certain age. By the way, the windows in your new Mustang would look great tinted.

Neat color for a 911.

I'm sure the tinted windows help keep the heat out, but it sure looked a lot nicer untinted.

Agreed. She took on a different appearance, didn't she? Although "cooler", she "looks" a bit different.

...still,..bet it's a lot cooler inside.

Best,

Doyle

How would they know how old you are? I have neighbors that drive down the street with tinted windows and I can't see who's in the car. So, I just look away. Too bad if they think I'm a snob.

Angela,
Butters is lookin goooood! I'd do the same but I think a dark tint on a triple black car is a bit "pimp" even for me.

And I have black on black and the PO tinted. I just haven't had the motivation to remove it. I don't like it. But, if it works, then it works. The black cars absorb so much heat anyway, I don't see much benefit.

Thanks Angela...but the Mustang windows are pretty darkly tinted from the factory. I also have a nice pair of prescription sunglasses and Detroit air conditioning that makes ice cubes. Of course, every air cooled 911 I've ridden in that had air conditioning had great air conditioning...as long as the ambient air temp was 72 f. or below.

If YOU like it, then it's right for you. I caught alot of grief back when I had my 73T tinted, but I liked it. So,,,, I had my 78 tinted, too! Butters looks awesome.

Well hey Cliff - how you doing? Want to thank you again for selling me Butters! He's been a GREAT car! I've put about 20,000 miles on him! One of the a/c lines bit the big one last August (of course, AUGUST!), and I haven't gotten around to replacing all of the lines. Wound up with a nice set of barrier lines left over from another project that are perfect for this car so I'm going to swap all of them out and then recharge the system. But you know how time is - lol! Hey, by the way, I don't suppose you have a 3.0 or a 3.2 laying around that needs a new home? Embarking on another project...

The tint on the windows isn't for everyone. But this is my daily driver and it really makes it alot more pleasant to drive in the heat. I do quite a few business trips with it to California, Nevada, etc. Very handy.

Paul - one thing that Detroit has always done well is a/c systems. I swear that I've been in some US cars where there was practically frost blowing out of the vents!

I hope it didn't come across as me busting on window tint. If so, whew, tough crowd.

I think Butters looks awesome! I actually think the tint makes it stand out more, maybe it's the stronger contrast? I like it though.

There are places that it's almost a necessity even with good AC. Fortunately it doesn't get to hot for too long here in Delaware.
I haven't hooked up my AC yet and it's not high on the priority list. I think I have to replace the lines too, not sure yet, it blows but it's not cold so I don't know if I lost the coolant through a leak or what.

Anyway, Butters looks a little more bad-ass with the tint.

Angela...I know what you mean about a "certain age" and tickets. Ever since I dyed my hair gray, I've had very few tickets.
