Options label - when exactly did they start to appear?

I found a few old posts indicating that the white options label that Porsche affixed to the underside of the hood didn't appear until 1982. I've been looking at an '82 SC that does not seem to have that label under the hood. Is it conceivable that this car was manufactured just prior to the introduction of the label, or is it more likely that this car has had its hood replaced?

They started using the labels in May 1983. An '82 will not have one.

A somewhat related question - when did they stop using them? Thanks

As far as I know, they still use them. They just may not be on the underside of the trunk lid. You'll probably find one pasted in the maintenance book for the car. We have an '08 that has the sticker in the book.

I don't know who installed the stickers. It might have been at the factory, it might have been done by the importer at the port, or it might have been done by the dealer during the pre-delivery inspection. The bottom line was somebody did it and they were supposed to place a sticker inside the maintenance book, to go along with the one under the trunk lid. There may have been other places the stickers ended up and I'd wager that it varied over time and in different markets. I have an '80 turbo that was originally delivered to Switzerland and the Swiss Porsche importer, AMAG, had their own stickers to identify the car and even had a plate that was riveted inside the engine compartment, with the AMAG number on it. Inside the maintenance book was a piece of paper with serial number stickers on it, for their use in putting a copy of the serial number on the maintenance booklet and wherever else they though they needed one. In my case, the extra stickers were left in the car.

I know that they used them on the 993s, as my '95 has one under the hood, and so does every other 993 I've seen through the '98 model year.

I looked for one on a '06 Cayman and couldn't locate the option label.

Take a look in the maintenance book. It should be there.
