Quick valve adjusment question
After adjusting the valves do you coat the valve cover gaskets with a thin coat of oil when you are assembling them? I'm using graphite gaskets and this is a 2.4 MFI engine.
Thanks! |

Install them dry, graphite is a dry lubricant. I would recommend buying the silicone gaskets they are reusable and seal the best IMO.

One more question...(this is my first time)
Should I let the car sit overnight after completing the adjustment before driving it? I thought i read that somewhere...??? |

Do the adjustment stoned-cold....but not heard of sitting overnight before driving....
Interesting footnote.....But I don't see why? Best, Doyle

Never heard that one. I just adjusted my valves and immediately after putting everything back together took it for a ride.

The theory is it helps the rocker cover gaskets seal as they have a chance to "mould" to the covers before being heated for the first time. Apparently once the gaskets are heated for the first time they loose some of their compliance.

I think it makes more sense to let the car sit over night (cool) before adjust. After adjusted, why need to cool it?
