I haven't tried the Sumitomos (heard decent stuff though from friends)but I've got the 205/55/16 up front and 225/50/16 in the rear, I'm running Toyo Proxes T1-S (made in Japan) and have been pleasently surprised with them for street use. Overall very good in dry and wet (traction AA), and even somewhat cold conditions (temp. A) with decent tread wear (280). I will be on the hunt for 245/45/16 just because I've got 9's in the rear and will look/fit a little better with the widebody. I like to stay with factory sizes seeing as usually the factory knows best (compared to my knowledge). I saw some 245/45/16 on "ties easy" and a while back on "tire rack" .

That's why I got rid of my 9's and put 7X16's on all corners, so I could mount 225/60/16's, rotate them when I need to and never worry about the supply of 225/60's.

www.tireseasy.com . They will have a few you haven't seen, but the Sumis do seem to have turned up missing.

i guess i will be the first (perhaps here) to try the nexen.
my brother must have gottten one of the last sets of sumo's. lets see, i know where he lives, no car alarm. midnight autoparts open for business? i only need the rears. the fronts are the yok es100's and have a lot of tread left.

a little hijack here

is this set for an SC or Carrera?

These 7x16's are Fuchs?

do you have a pic showing them?

sounds interesting

Try Hankook Ventus RS-2s.

You might have to go to 17" wheels to get a larger variety of sizes and availability.

Years ago there were 15" but they went away... then, 16" they're going away.. now is 17"...

245/45 is indeed getting harder to find. I'd stick with that size and not upsize to 255/50- it would look kind of SUV like, with a fat/tall sidewall

The Nexen is a "low-end" tire. When you do a search by prices, they're typically the cheapest. For general street use, i'm sure they'll be fine. They're a DOT rated tire, so they have to meet certain standards.

Joe,

I think you meant to say 225/50, not /60, correct?

The 16x7 Fuchs all around is indeed a nice setup. For street use it is perfect IMO. Like Joe said, you can move the wheels to any corner of the car for rotation & balancing wear. Add some 930 (28mm) spacers or 928 (21mm) spacers with 65mm wheel studs at the rear and you've got yourself a nice looking setup. Here's a friend's car with this 16x7 on all fours installation at the track

im just looking for something for the street. nothing high end by any means. i have a wear issue on the rear. i am going to get an alignment next week end. when i know that is good, i may look at spending more for tires.

i just talked to my brother. he called sumo and they said they just sent a shipment to tire rack . this was about a month aor 2 ago. he then called tire rack and had them try to find them. i guess they have them in a warehouse somewhere and just have to find. he said it took about a month to get them but they should still have some, they just arent on the web site.

No, I did mean 225/60's. I know they have the higher profile which is what I wanted to give me a taller ratio to lower my highway rpms. I still have plenty of torque off the line, enough to take off in 2nd most of the time.

As a point of reference, my 74 originally was equipped with 185/70/15s on all four corners.

Cheers,

Joe

On Cape Cod we would use the term ... clam diggers (don't let your fenders touch the water!)
Little high no?

Aurel 07-17-2009 03:35 PM

Looks like a 911 SUV:D.

stlrj 07-17-2009 05:45 PM

I call it my rally car which is just what I need when I hit the back roads here in Marin.

RoninLB 07-17-2009 10:08 PM

around here it'd be a "city jungle cruiser" able to eat potholes and broken roads at 75 mph in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx in a single bound.

cool

stlrj 07-18-2009 08:03 AM

If I can't have the real thing, I'll have to be satisfied with my version.

I recently changed mine to 225-50-16 front, 245-45-16 rear and could not find anything decent, continental conti sport still makes this size and they are a good tyre.

"stlrj" correct me if I am wrong but doesn't 60 profile on that size tyre give you wrong speedo reading since the diameter of the wheel including the tyre is bigger than say 50 or 45 in the similar size?

ArtechnikA 07-18-2009 09:51 AM

If you didn't mind going to a 50-series I've always had good luck with Yokohama ES-100's.
There is a Conti in 245/45-16 -- I just put a set of Conti Cross-Contact UHP on the Titan and I like them a lot. (It may be a truck, but I didn't suddenly forget how to drive...)
