Need outer lip for BBS RS 014, 16"

Looking for the chrome outer lip for a BBS RS 014 16" wheel.

The full number on the hub is: 9Jx16H2ET-2 RS 014 000658

I'm restoring my 1979 930 and this is the last piece. Once I get the lip, off to BBS to get the wheels reassembled. Then I'm done and it's time to enjoy the fruits of my labors (and my wallet!).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. Just saw the classified area and have re-posted this there. I cannot figure out hos to delete this one otherwise I would. Apologies.

I would check with Rod Graff (rgofast) here on the forums. He has built a collection of these wheels and provides a nice source of centers and barrels to the Pelican people. ted (that's his username) recently had a collection of these for sale on the classifieds- do a search and you should see them from maybe a month of two ago.

I believe you'll have to assemble the wheel yourself. It's my understanding BBS will not provide service or parts for these street wheels. Fortunately it's not difficult at all to do. Clean up the mating surfaces, apply a small bead of slow-curing quality silicone RTV sealant (too much is a bad thing here- squishes out the bolt holes and joints between the halves and center) and torque the bolts to 17 ft-lbs in a symmetric-opposing pattern.

Clean nuts and bolts are a must because they get really gummed up with road debris & brake dust. I'd also suggest numbering the holes in the halves with a pencil so you can keep track when tightening. 34 bolts makes it easy to lose count of them!

Ted's stuff is gone ;) I have a 9x16 wheel for sale. Virtually new, but it is not the right offset :( what is the lip width you need? I have a few spare outers that I'm not going to use and one of them may work for you. BBS, as far as I have researched, will not work on these wheels anymore. Neither will Weidmans wheels. You can get fresh hardware from Black forest Industries:

BFI may also have an outer for you. If not you can try Jeff Alton in Canada or Tunershop.com advertises the following:

Enjoy!

Michael,

It's a 2.5" lip/depth. Is that what you're asking?

Thanks for the links! I'll check it out.

P.S. Regarding BBS, I called and found a guru there named Mike. They'll do the wheels. His number is (770) 967-9848.

Great! If you find some that are a good price let me know! I need a 2.5" set as well. Jeff Alton is trying to get them made for me, but its been a long several months and still nothing from the manufacturer. I may have to break down and shell out the $400+s/h at the TunerShop.com as my rears are about shot... Not looking forward to that. I might just go 17" at that point as it is not that much more expensive and I could sell all the 16" parts to BMW guys for some good $.

Enjoy!

Mirage international can supply new stronger spec BBS RS 34 bolt pattern shells.
I think in any width or diameter.
Here are 16" centers with new 17" inch shells.

Has anyone ever gotten a shell from Tunershop?

Bbs outer

i have a single 2.5" bbs rs lip if you are interested?

Braden 07-30-2009 02:39 AM

I may have it handled but can you send me photos?

Also, to make sure I'm looking at the right size (I know 16" is right but I'm not sure about the 2.5" part), would you measure yours and tell me what you get when you lay the part on the floor (outside facing down) and measure from the floor to the face of the surface that bolts to the others? I get 3 inches that way.

Thanks!

HOOD RIDING RED 08-03-2009 04:30 PM

yep 3" overall

HOOD RIDING RED 08-03-2009 04:35 PM

i found an old VWVORTEX thread talking about a bbs rs 014 that were Un-refinished (never split) an they do in fact accept a 2.5" lip. If it's a 9"wheel you are trying to make you are looking at a 6" inner barrel,a .5" center, and a 2.5" outer lip. A bbs classic numbering search might yield a more definitive answer.

euro911sc 08-03-2009 05:21 PM

yeah, that is the size I'm making: 6" inner, 2.5" outer, with .5" center. Should yield a 9" width, but the offset depends on the center height of the donor center.

euro911sc knows his BBS, Can't wait to see his new set in action!!!

FYI Only, I bought my new BBS RS bolts at Pertsch & Partner, they also sell wheel halves.

http://www.titanium-touch.de/titanium_touch_index_uk.htm#

Pricing was reasonable, quality was excellent, and delivery was right there (rec'd from Germany in about a week). Postal costs were a bit high, I felt though.

Would buy from these guys again.
