ITG filters versus K&N???
 

I have been running ITG filters on my 2.8 believing they were superior. However I just had one off and used my air gun to blow through the foam. To my surprise most of the air was deflected back in my face. I could barely feel any coming through the filter. I then got my old K&N, and all of the air went through the filter? If this is any indication, the air flow resistance in the ITG compared to K&N is significant to say the least.
Can some one verify, shed some light, am I missing something?

Seems that fine particles make it through the K&N too, stick with the ITG.

I have yet to find anyone on this site that recommends the K&N. Too many particles make it through and could possibly affect our intakes, whether carbureted or FI. They look cute and make lots of room, but I won't take a chance on the possible damage.

we have tested both filters on our engine dyno and the ITG filters are by far better than the K & N with the metal tops or water shields, these are on fully developed 911 race engines from 2.0 thru 3.8 and they all made more power with the foam filters properly oiled vs. K&N, the downside to the foam filters is you have to clean them carefully with the proper cleaners (soap/hot water) solvents or gas will turn them to dust in short order. most engines only lost between .8 hp to 3hp vs. 5hp to 6hp with mixtures corrected on both.

thank you, that is what I wanted to hear. I will stick with the ITG. I use their recommended cleaner & oil. Sometimes I am concerned I over oil?

what about water from rain getting into the ITG's

I never drive it in the rain. Don't even have wiper motors.

ITG make F1 filters so good enough for me,I have them on my Throtlle bodies only downside they dont make the awesome sound that K&N made on my PMOs

Over oiling is an issue, we have seen some that prep them like its a 1k off road desert race and that really makes the mixture rich on a carb motor, we usually use a light spray or run them dry and clean them often, Its close to running open stacks power wise without ingesting stuff. racing in the rain is not a problem If its raining bad enough to become a problem you will have bigger problems with body work !

Does anyone have a link for these filters? I really need to get rid of my k&n's, I'm on a brand new engine and really can't afford to risk it with them.

I don't know that K&N's will kill your motor very quickly!

Steve W. probably has case histories on how long motors will last with K&N's on it.

AND, often (but not always) better flow means less filtration. Do we KNOW that the ITG foam filters really reduce particle incursion?

Coast Fabrication is where we get ours, they have the filters as a kit with base plates for the weber carbs, or by them selves if you want, we make an alum base plate for PMO carbs in an offset style and with symetrical throttle bores, they may have them as well now. 714 842 2603

can't argue with power output of K&N vs ITG...

but I beat the crap out of my engine including being in forest dirt roads every day for weeks and months at a time. Mileage from start to return is usually 15-20k miles without engine service besides a ticking valve that may catch my ear and oil changes.

the first thing I do is check my K&N baseplate for dirt. Never enough dust on a white glove that will come up in a picture. K&N's always oiled before ride and seals greased.

Do you (or anyone here) know the part number for the Weber's (46's) with stock plate and rain hats? I can look online if I have that, there is actually an "ITGFilters.com" I believe.

cleaning my ITG filters now. A light mist is suggested for spray? Do you spray inside the filetr also?

I started out with a 944, over in that forum we had a few engines with k&n's torn down and the cylinder walls looked like someone used sandpaper on them.

ITG is just down the road from me ,they made me a set of custom filters for my ITBs,I asked about cleaning and oiling ,they suggest spraying the outside of the filter until it looks wet then work in with your hand and leave overnight before use.
They told me the oil is what catches the muck in the air not the material

I'll try and find the old thread, it's here somewhere. Don't recall it being a track car. I don know they let through sandpaper like dirt, that's all over google. For the amount of money I have invested in my engine the filters are gonna go.

thx - my problem is that if I don't drive in the rain (with the shields) then the car can't be used much here in W. Oregon.

I know often people don't oil the K&Ns enuff...

what I'd really like is paper that fits my PMOs
