Made the deal on my new Porsche!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe it - finally after 2 months of searching - made the deal on my first Porsche today. I think I just spotted.....
It's a 1970 911E 5 speed coupe, silver over black, nearly all original. I know I'll have a billion questions so I'll try to pace myself. I have to get it transported from Seattle to Dallas. Can any of you recommend a good(inexpensive) transport company. Thanks, Mark |

Well I don't know cost, but I can recommend a VERY good transporter. Big Sky Express. www.bigskyexpress.com THey do a phenomenal job and are used to transporting high $ cars. Tell them Chris and Esther sent you.
...and CONGRATULATIONS!!! [This message has been edited by cstreit (edited 02-12-2001).] |

I used Kiwi Carriers to have a Speedster transported from LA to Iowa on an open truck. Cost $800. I dont have the number any more but I am sure you can get it from a phone search site.

My brother paid $500 for a transport from Connecticut to Florida....so i dont think $850 is the best deal. But then again I dont remember the company that my brother used

First of all, I would NOT use an open transport. I recently moved from Florida to Arizona. My jeep came on an open transport and the Porsche was shipped enclosed by Exotic Auto Transports located in Orlando Fla. The cost was 1290. BUT I knew where the car was at all times and they were absolutely the best to deal with. By the way, the Jeep arrived and it had been underneath a '66 Buick that leaked oil and trans fluid all over it. DON'T CUT CORNERS HERE!

Congrats! Saw that one in the Seattle Times as well. By the way, with all the down and out software exiles you can pick a nice Pcar up for low bucks around Seattle nowadays...

Have you considered driving her home? The people I met and the places I saw made mine a memorable trip (CO to NY). I thought to myself, well if I break down, I'll just rent a U-Haul van & trailer and finish the job.

You guys are great. Really appreciate the suggestions. Am toying with driving the car back through southern CA and across AZ. The drive across the desert is the only part that worries me. It would be a great trip though.

Mark,
Don't sweat the drive through Arizona. I've made the drive many times, both between LA and Phoenix and Phoenix and Dallas. This is the best time to be in desert! ------------------ Dave '77 911S Targa |

Mark - if you have the time, DRIVE IT. There is nothing like a nice long trip to get in sync with the new car, learn its mannerisms, its quirks, it's sounds, etc.
- Jeez, do I ever envy you! - Before the drive, be sure to have a major service done - - - all fluids changed,- - - particularly be sure the valves are adjusted. Find a good shop in Seattle to do the work - I would not rely on the PO's word for having the work done. Take it yourself to a shop of your choosing to have the work done. Then relax and enjoy the trip. - Chuck |

I would drive it too, but i have also used Kiwi before and had very good luck. it is open though. I had and alfa shipped down from seattle and a lotus sent up that way. no problems.

BRAINIAC seems to know at least one P-mechanic in Seattle that does good work. My vote is to drive it, too. And my vote is VERY EMPHATIC. Perhaps it's because I myself need a vacation badly, but listen to this:
The Oregon coast is one of the most beautiful, scenic and relaxing drives in the solar system, particularly this time of year. The vista at Canon Beach is in half the scenic calendars you have seen. So are some of the lighthouses. Redwood forest and Big Sur. the desert is a pussy cat this time of year. This is a no-brainer in my humble opinion. ------------------ '83 SC |
