my rear trailing arms are different.
 

I just took off the rear trailing arms they are different from each other. One side has a bolt with a round head on it and the other has nothing on it. It looks like it might be a sway bar attachment point. Both of them are steel. I plan on adding weltmeister sway bars, will the differences be a problem or do i stll have to buy the rear adapter kit to install the rear bar.

Well, I presume your car is pre-'74, right,? And, didn't have a rear factory anti-roll bar from the factory, right? So, it appears that someone along the line replaced the trailing arm that has the attachment stud for the anti-roll bar. You will indeed have to install the counterpart on the other side, as well as the body mounts for the bar!

A couple of questions on anti-sway bars. I will be installing one on the back on my '72E. It doesn't have the body-mounted brackets. I have a couple of aluminum swing arms. One is a '78(?) or later with the bolted drop link. The other has the ball mount. I think I'd prefer to have the bolted drop link. Can I remove the ball mount & buy a bolt-on drop link & install it? My other question is - I bought the anti-sway bar kit that bolts onto the torque tube. It has the big U-bolts that go around the tube & the brackets are attached to them. Is this a good way of mounting the sway bar? Has anybody out there had experience with one of these???

Stoddard sells the ball-end inserts, but I am not sure if you can remove those inserts from the arm. They don't sell the threaded inserts, like those found on later arms.

What I did was use a portable electric bandsaw to cut off the ball. I then used various drill bits in progressive fashion to make a hole in the rest of the insert. I then tapped the hole with a metric 10mm tap. I believe it was a 10x1.5mm tap, but I am not 100% sure. Make sure you use a bottoming tap. I can get you pictures, if you would like.

The job is best performed when the trailing arm is removed from the body. I did this work during a rear bushing job.
