Talk me off the ledge - thinking about buying a second 911...

I currently own a 1995 993 that I use an occasional car, and I'm thinking about buying either an SC or a Carrera to use as a daily driver (I currently use an E36 BMW 328is for that purpose. I've thought about daily driving the 993, but it's in really pristine condition and I'd rather keep it for weekends only). My heart tells me that owning another 911 will be awesome, but my brain tells me that the cost of ownership of two 911s, especially if one of them is 20+ years old, may be prohibitive. The BMW was pretty cheap to buy and so far it hasn't cost much to run. It's a solid, if not exciting, car. The question is, do I want to live with the possibility of costly repairs (top-end rebuilds, etc) on two 911s, or should I stick with the BMW as a daily car and use any spare car funds to keep the 993 in tip-top condition? At this point my heart is winning and I'm casually looking for another 911, but a little voice in the back of my head tells me I'm insane...

Just make sure to get bumper stickers for both that say "My other car is a Porsche".

I've actually considered getting a 993 for daily duties. My 911 is a bit high-strung to live with on a daily basis, as it has no radio, no A/C, no sound deadening, yada yada.....

If one is good, two must be twice as good!

How about a 996 for a DD - prices have never been better.

I'm standing on the ledge with you, so you don't want another crazy persons advice. Anyone want to trade a 97 M3 for a 911?

Just not a fan of the 996, but prices are pretty attractive at the moment.

As much as I would love the vicarious thrill of seeing you have two 911's, I think you are right - keep the 993 in tip-top condition and don't plan on using a 20+ year old car as a DD.

What about the option of making your DD a bit more exciting? My '87 911 is my weekender, but my DD Saab has some mods to make it a bit less boring. That is, if you don't want to consider a 996, Boxster, etc. as a DD.

Okay, I'll say it.

i like having two cars, but at times it seems like I can't keep up. Either I don't have enough time, or something's cost-prohibitive. When I spend a whole bunch of time/money on one car, I neglect the other one, and because of that, neither one will probably ever be exactly how I want it.

But, one car is really cool, and one car I can jump in and drive 1000 miles without getting nervous. I don't know.

I have a wife, but I don't want to wear her out.

I was thinking of getting a girlfriend on the side that was more simple, fun, wise, loyal and reliable than the wife... but I don't know if i can afford both a wife and a girlfriend.

Somebody talk me out of it.

Eh, you don't really NEED more than 1 naturally aspirated 911. Go for a 930 Turbo!
