Not having specific records from the PO I don't know if dinosaur or synthetic oil was used in my 86 3.2 engine with 133k miles.
Is it safe to switch to synthetic, or is there a risk of seal starting leaking? ![]() The oil looks dirty and calls for a change.

In short, most contributors to this site will NOT recommend a full synthetic in our cars. Many say the introduction of synthetics may increase oil leakage, while some will claim BS on that. FWIW, many here will recommend Brad Penn 20w50, which is a partial synthetic.
With our flat-tappet motors, it is recommended to use oils with a high ZDDP rating. Do a search on "ultimate oil thread", sit back, light a big cigar and soak it in....long and informative read.
