Many Moons Ago.
I have a single 7 x 15 that is a high quality casting with "JAPAN" on the back.

9x16 Made in Japan

I have a pair of 16x9s. They're Xenon rims.
You can tell by the MC logo (which means that the rims conform to a set of Japanese standards) on the outside.

Thanks.

Xenons

No complaints. Perfect fit for my Carrera.
I wasn't able to weigh them though. Perhaps next spring.

subscribed to this one ...

I have 15" 8s & 9s on my wide body.
HAVE to move to 16s so that I can get tires.
Really don't wont to do that as I like the BBS wheels I now have.
And don't want to turn this into a HUGE buck project.

Understand that even 16s are difficult to find tires for

There were some Japan made 16 replicas on Craigslist but the offset was wrong.

Automotion or PP sells replica Fuchs 16x9s for ~$250/pc. I don't know who makes them but they look nice. I was considering buying a pair.

I have a set of track wheels 16x8s and 16x9s that look great on the car... Switching to my street set of 16x6 and 16x7 Fuchs diminishes the car's good looks bigtime, IMO.

A company called Flat Four in Tokyo sells a repro in 4½x15 and 5½x15 aimed at the VW crowd. Most believe they are made in Japan, but they are made elsewhere in the region.

I ask because I saw a set of 15 x 8's with tires for $700 the seller said came off of a '78 targa. When I asked the seller for part numbers he said "made in Japan"!???

Didn't know they existed.

I had a pair of the Xenon 16x9 replicas back in the early 90's back when Electrodyne was still around and selling Porsche parts. They held up pretty well, and occasionally were called into duty as a backup wheel for the track. But they were uber heavy, memory says in the neighborhood of 25 lbs.

I also had a pair of 15x8 cheap Japanese made replicas back in the late 80's when I was too young and stupid to know better. Broke the center out of one at the track, and the other one was cracked too. Absolutely a dangerous wheel on a Porsche.

Would I even put a knockoff wheel on my car again? Not if it was just a cast copy of what was designed for the strength of being forged. However, the Rota wheel was designed from the beginning to be proper strength, and my Jeff Alton wheels are amazingly strong as evidenced by having nailed a pothole at the exit of turn 7 at Blackhawk, left side fully loaded and pulling probably 85 or so. Not even a slight vibration or out of round from the wheels, even though a friend bent two Audi wheels and another damaged a Fikse.
