VW and Porsche Piech and Porsche

Here is Der Spiegel's review of the current VW/Porsche contretemps.
http://www.spiegel.de/international/business/0,1518,637243,00.html

A long read if you're at the office.

Very interesting read.

Thank god Wienerking is gone. He was well on his way to turning Porsche into another Toyota...

wow! Even more convoluted than I knew.

For one thing, I knew Piech had bonged several women... but didn't know that he literally screwed Porsche.

...still he is the single offspring who is most like the old man -- good & bad both i guess.

Fascinating read.

However, it sounds like this Michael Macht guy who is replacing Weinerking, is just another soul-less bean counting bottom-line guy. A 'highly-qualified production expert.' Qualified to do what? Continue more uninspiring iron?? More lukewarm racing involvement? I wish someone from the Motorsports dept. had been slotted, but those days are long gone.

Considering Toyota is the most successful car company in the world this was a bad thing?

I think Weideking did a pretty good job until the end when he got too ambitious, greedy and foolish.

Yes. Toyota and Porsche produce (or should produce) two totally different products. If you want a Camry or a Corolla, buy a Toyota. Porsche should not be making those types of cars.

He was always ambitious, greedy and foolish. It finally caught up with him in the end. Now he'll just have to take his (enormous) golden parachute and go stick his fat snout in at BMW or Mercedes, because I sure don't see a future for him at VW...
