Air Filter

This is probably one of the dumbest questions on the forum recently. I have a 1988 911 Targa, and want to change the air filter. I unfastened the two front clips on the filter box, but that's as far as I get. Something in the rear of the box is preventing me from removing it.

Any suggestions?

There are two clips on the back side. I hope you have small hands and long arms.

Don't take the AC off until you know for sure that you can't reach behind and unfasten (and refasten) the clips. (They're identical to the fronts and in the same general place) Some people (me!) can do this with little trouble, others struggle with the little buggers.

Then, if you have nothing better to do, do a search for K&N Filters!

Thanks, guys. Looks like a job for my wife. It'll probably cost me at least a dinner out!

Ask your wife if she wants to learn to adjust valves while she's under the hood.

That would be worth a dinner, too!

And maybe a divorce! Her car is a 1989 MB 560SL, with MANY recent rain leaks above the windshield, etc. I keep promising to fix them, and the stuff on her passenger seat keeps getting wet. Today, her feet were getting wet, so she drove the '03 Silverado!

I attached electrical ties to the two back clips in my dad's 88. It makes them much easier to find and you have something to pull on.

Yup, a bit of a PITA to get to, especially if the engine is hot. That tie wrap thing is a pretty good idea. I might do that the next time its off.
