Foam Filters anyone ?

I'm tempted to install an ITG foam filter on my 74' S as it is a reasonably cheap "upgrade "...

Can anyone advise on the usefulness of this change ? Can you feel any difference at all ?
I would suppose you would get slightly better mid range response, but can it be felt ?

foam or K&N ?

I would run foam if it was all I could get for an application. They don't filter well dry, and they clog if oiled. They will keep a mouse out, or a pebble, they make nice noise when exposed, and they can look good. If you drive on clean roads, they could be alright I suppose.

Look, when you replace a paper filter, what do you see ? I see the outside filthy with dust and particles, and the inside is still clean. When I use a respirator for painting or sanding, I see the same thing, and I think I am glad to see what didn't get into my lungs or my engine.

I don't see foam on my respirator filter, and I don't see gauze. I see paper. If your paper filter has enough surface area, then you need to look at the airbox, to see if it is restrictive. Many of the foam filters are effective in their application because they eliminate the airbox completely, and get rid of the small snorkle intake.

They also keep the mice and the rocks out, which is a lot like those screens that you see on old racing carbs. Nothing between the carb and the air but big holes. That could work, if you like the idea, and don't drive in the dirt.

Also consider that this opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.
