Sacramento / Foothills a bit nutzz runs wanted.
Ok, I know sport bike riders do this kind of thing.
I am wondering if fellow Porsche owners anywhere ever get together for not quite socially responsible runs to exercise there cars in less traveled areas. Except for doing some PCA/GGR TT/DE's and a few runs to the store, my mostly stock but well tuned for sport 3.2 Carrera mostly just sits (LSD, bypass, SW chip, corner balanced, cambered, 7/9's, MPSC's, sport seats...). I think it might be interesting to meet up with a fellow 911 nut or two for some fun runs through the foothills or such. Nothing to crazy anymore for me but a radar detector (scanner?) would probably still be a good idea. For example, one of my favorite runs was a solo run from Fort Bragg to Sacramento at 5AM on a Sunday morning. I started out in the dark & fog and took nothing but back roads in the 91 C2 Turbo I had at the time. Clear back roads through the redwoods at sunrise with a heavily modified turbo and a full tank. What was usually a 3.5-4 hour run by freeway and main roads only took 2 hr, 45 minutes taking the back roads (some almost triple legal), including one stop and getting stuck in traffic for the last half hour of the drive. Best (probably most stupid) car experience of my life. Another was a moment a couple of weeds ago with an opportunity I just happened on on a river road at sunset. There was no one around between Clarksberg/Freeport and West Sac. What a rush. Just some runs through the gears and sport driving while staying withing 50% of potential. If anyone knows some good back road runs through the foothills or such and would not mind if I follow them, I could be very interested! Not a race, just a spirited run to enjoy our cars like they deserve. Anyone ever done anything like this in other areas? Any thoughts / recommendations? Just a thought. ![]() |

When I was in CA last October I got off 101 @ (I think) Gilroy and took a great drive west on (again, I think) Rte 152 to Watsonville before heading down 1 to Monterey. Nice drive.

Good question 911st. And thanks, Paulporsche I am south of S.F. so 152 to Watsonville may work for me.

Thanks Bob, appreciated.
I have kept my stock suspension and muffler with the thought of being able to do some of these back road runs or less than perfect road (kid of an asphalt rally) and not have the locals call me in as I scream past there farm and such. The best. |

Mines Rd. starting in Livemore. Turns into San Antonio Valley Rd. and takes you to the top of Mt. Hamilton. Very little traffic just watch for the cyclists. Great twisties & scenery. Or takes Mines Rd. and hang a left at the Junction Cafe and drive down Del Puerto Canyon Rd. The Junction Cafe is the only food & drink stop as this is a very rural area with just a few ranches & homes.
Mines Rd. to the top of Mt. Hamilton & return: 100 miles Mines Rd. & Del Puerto Canyon & back to Livermore: 120 miles Cheers, Bill
