SmartStrings

Has anyone used the SmartStrings 4 Wheel Toe Alignment System? Is it easy to set up and use? I am thinking of buying one and the smart camber tool. Could I use these on a M3 as well. I think my M3 has wider rear track and was wondering if that would negate using this system on both cars. You experience and comments are much appreciated.

Both are excellent products and work very well. They come with excellent instructions. They were developed by Craig Watkins. I remember visiting with Craig in his home shop when he was developing the SmartStrings product, and he was very meticulous and systematic with the process.

They can be used on a variety of vehicles.

There are many commercially-available tools for these processes, and of course one can fabricate their own using a variety of approaches. From a time versus money standpoint, these two tools are excellent.

I've used the SmartStrings setup. It's very nice.THe wider rear track of the M3 does not matter. Remember a 911 has a slightly wider rear track too. The key is that the strings be set up such that they're parallel to the longitudinal centerline of the chassis.

For those who don't know, the SmartStrings are for setting toe. You set camber and caster with the SmartCamber tool.

I made my own for about $15. Maybe not as nice, but I still get repeatable results. And much cheaper.

An excellent product. Easy to use, accurate and repeatable. You need Smart CAmber as well.

I have done it with the homegrown version and now SmartStrings. I love the Smart version! For starters you can raise, lower (if you have a lift) the car or roll it around without repeating the string setup. Genius!
