Removing Idle Control Valve
 

Hello. I am going to remove my ICV to clean it (finally) and have a question. The plug at the end, how should I disconnect it? I wiggled it a bit and it didn't move so what is the best bet? Should I use a flat head screwdriver and pry it off the ICV? Also after I clean it with carb cleaner how long should I let it sit? Does it have to be completely dry before I reinstall it? Any input is appreciated.

You will notice that there is a metal ring around the wiring housing. Use a pin tool to remove it and then the harness will slip right off.

You need to completely remove it and clean until the cleaning fluid comes out clear then shoot some lube into it (NOT WD40). Let dry then replace.

But before you replace, verify the OHMs per Bentley

+1. While cleaning, shake it gently back and forth...you should hear the valve moving freely.

When you're ready to put the ICV back in, you can use regular hose clamps. I prefer a high-quality hose clamp (anything NOT made in Mexico or China), so it doesn't strip when I crank down on it during tightening.

Thanks guys. DRACO-I don't see any metal ring by the plug, it looks to be all plastic. Also, and please forgive my ignorance, but what is a pin tool? Will PB Blast be okay for the lube?

Really? that is strange, could you post a pic of your ICV's Wiring Harness?

PB Blaster is fine but try to locate some sylicon base lube, You only need a little shot in there, don't drown it like the using the cleaner.

Pin Tool is a collection of 4 Needle type tools with handles, Straight, Hooked, 90 degree angle and a divited one. Local Part store has them, very cheap and priceless in helping you locate original holes to place screws in carpets and remove snap retaining rings like on your ICV (well it supposed to be there).

You can be gentle an dplace a flat head screw driver and gently pry it, it should just pop off.
