worn shocks or other?

I bought my 82 targa about a month ago. Had been driven only 3000 miles in the last 2 years, so has sat a pretty good bit.

Had to replace tie rod ends and straighten the steering (about 45 degrees off).

The ride though is very 'bouncy' for lack of a better description. The shocks do not seem worn, as they are extremely stiff when pressing on each corner.

My question is: Im assuming out of round tires, and will be replacing them soon. However, what have people experienced with worn shocks?

thanks in advance

The 'bounce the bumper' test doesn't work with these cars. The 'spring' is a solid steel torsion bar that twists. The shock dampens the compression and rebound to smoothe out the ride. I agree with your finding that the shocks are probably worn out and need replacing.

I replaced the four original Boge shocks that were on my 89 Carrera when i purchased it a few months ago with Bilstein HD's front and Sport rears and it made a whole difference with the ride...
Tony is right when he mentions that the bounce test doesn't work, you have to drive the car as it seems all four corners are related on these cars when it comes to the suspension !
Replace all four and you will have peace of mind and a much better ride !

thanks guys.

I've searched a bunch, but can't find a real good writeup on R&R.

Can anyone shoot me in the right direction?

thanks

I have sent you a Private Message (PM) with some details. If you're not sure where to find that, check your 'User CP' at the top of the page and activate the PM's.
