Newbie Question - Chain Tensioner
 

It appears that I have some light leakage from my Chain tensionner cases (both side).

I was wondering if I have to drop the engine to change the gaskets only?

Wayne's book "101 911 projects" only explains how to upgrade to chain tensionners. I saw that pelican offers the gasket set for both sides. I am sure someone has done this before, I was just debating if I should do this now to avoid the oil drop on my new garage floor, or simply wait and have it done when I am due for a clutch replacement.

As a general rule, you do not need to drop the engine to remove the chain housing covers to change the gaskets. At most, you will have to remove the rear tin and probably the muffler.

You may want to drain the oil to avoid oil dripping from the cases while you have them open.

Of course, a few pictures would help too!

A cheap sheet of plywood can be put under your car, or cardboard over plastic sheeting. The cardboard is there to prevent slipping. You will still want a drip tray.
