Question wheel bearing preload- how tight is right?

Going to replace both front wheel bearings and am not sure what the right end play is. Don't want to go too loose or tight on the nut. How much pressure on the end washer is correct before it moves? 81SC

You should be able to push the washer sidewise using a screwdriver blade without much force.
Too tight is bad. Better to lock the nut 1 groove too loose and retighten after some 1000 miles.

Tighten once pretty well and turn the wheel by hand some times. Then adjust the play.
