reed switch, footwell blowers, summertime, burning feet

Hi guys,
I did a search on the topic and found many that detail how to backdate the heat. I have jumped my reed switch last winter, and got the footwell blowers going. However it seems they are even running when the heat is at position 0. My feet are BURNING this summer. Is there a solution to the reed switch backdate method? Is there a different more revised method out there? I'm going to have to clip the jumper when i get home because not only are my feet cookin, but i dont have my a/c charged up either! This convertible is supposed to be a nice weather car, not a winter car

You don't have a reed switch problem, you have a problem with your flapper boxes not closing and allowing the hot air to be dumped out back by the rear shock area. If you have auto heat more than likely the ball on the end of the rod that opens and closes the flapper boxes popped off the cup that holds it inside the auto heat box.

i have the manual heat. The problem is the hot air is comming IN the cabin when i dont want it to. That would mean my flappers are closed, when they should be open letting the hot air out under the car instead of in the cabin. I read somewhere on the forum that the reed switch jump keeps the footwell blowers active even when the manual heat knob is in position 0, that is why i figured it was that.

Matter of semantics. I meant closed to the cabin. You need to get under the car and see where the air is getting directed.

ok. well i determined that the footwell blowers blowing slow if at all is irrelevant. The simple fact is when i rev the motor the footwells BLAST hot air at my feet. So you were right about the hot air getting in the cabin. Last time i had the car on the lift, i payed close attention to the flapper boxes, they both looked open. I read somewhere there is an internal valve in the flapper boxes? Are they serviceable? Replaceable? Does pelican sell them?

The entire box can be replaced. Most times the cable just gets frozen and can be unstuck. I would get someone to move the lever up and down in the cabin while you look to see if the cables move.

There is a butterfly valve inside that also cuts off the air flow to the cabin. Sometimes that rusts out. You can see it in this picture:
