Air Box Clip Problem on 81 SC

Hey guys,
Looked at a very nice '81 SC yesterday, had it in the shop for PPI and leak down today, all looks good - except... the center clip on the bottom of the air box is broken so there's not a good seal there. I am concerned about dirt getting past the filter and was wondering if anyone ever had repaired (glued, epoxied, etc.) an area on the edge where a clip is. The clip is still there but the edge plastic is cracked so it won't clip in on it's on.
I appreciate your input.

get an extra top clip and drill down through and anchor the clip with a bolt and nut it will give you something to tie the strap to.

I don't even use the air box cover.

Don't let this put you off on purchasing the car. Epoxy could be used for the repair or Bruce's idea sounds feasible.

Wayne, (and others)
Please excuse my ignorance, but in not using the airbox cover does the air filter seat well enough into the housing that dirt won't get underneath thereby entering the system? What about other contaminates such as water, etc?
Do you secure the filter in any way? I ask that because when the tech - one that knows his air-cooled Porsche and I would trust with my mother's life) showed me the broken clip I noticed the filter was in the top of the air box laying aside from the car.

Jeff-sent you a PM.

My filter is held in with the straps and the element is sealed around the circumference very tightly.

Yeah, you're correct.
I was trying to remember the placement after a long, trying day and my memory wasn't so good.
To clarify, the broken clip in on the left.
Thanks!

I think I'd have to fashion a clip, drill a hole in the box and insert a bolt and nut like has been suggested.
Or, it has also been suggested that I cross one of the straps from left to right - back left to front right.
My way of thinking is this will apply pressure across the top and hold it down adequately.
Probably something I will have to play with to see what appears to seal best.
