dropped motor and trans....

'70 911E: I recently had some clutch issues and removed the motor and trans. to get that work done. My question is, now that the motor is out, any ideas on what else I could do or check or look for with this opportunity? Would it be a good idea to change the front seal for instance? Thanks, Rick.

On a non-motor related point of view. Check over/clean the tranny and look at the CV joints, heater flapper boxes and heater hoses. While the motor is out you can get to these areas quite easily.

You should also take this opportunity to look at your trailing arm bushings. On your car you can not replace them without the removal of the transmission so...if they are bad you really do not have that much more work to do. Just remove the tranny and the arms to replace the bushings. If they have never been replaced then it is probably time to do so. Depending on what you use the car for (i.e. Autocrossing, DE or Track events) you may want to consider up grading the bushings.

Edit: While the motor is out you should take the time to verify the MFI timing, MFI Cogs (both on the cam and the pump) and belt condition/ tension. Whith the motor out you will never have a better opportunity the check these things.
