Shift Coupling
Well I am elbow deep into my Clutch replacement.
So while waiting for the Flywheel resurface, I am replacing the shifter bushings...the cup and linkage one were fine, but what is the deal with the coupling pair? How do I get the old ones out? Do I hammer the pin out? I am confused...thanks for any advice... I can't wait to see how my 915 feels with a new Sport Clutch, new shifter bushings...etc... I may have to treat myself to a brand new shift knob! |
A little Wd40 and just hammer the pin out. Make sure you support the coupler while striking the pin. The coupler is cast and might bend. Just did mine and I could not believe the difference it made. Joe 78 SC |

I used a piece of 1/2" diameter aluminun, rod to drive out the steel pin with no damage. It came out without having to be hit too hard.

There is less chance of damaging the coupler body if you use a large bench vise, and a couple of sockets to press the pin out! On one side put a socket larger than the OD of the pin, and on the other side put a socket (1/4" drive) with smaller OD than the pin.
