Trans Shift Help Needed-- Can't Shift..

I went to park my 86 930 this evening and when I went to select reverse, I felt a bit of a pop and noticed I wasn't feeling the tension when I push to the left on the shift knob.

The shifter will not move into 1st, 2nd or reverse. No grinding, it just won't budge more than say a few MM or so regardless whether the car is on or off, clutch in or out.

3rd and 4th are totally fine.

I checked the shift coupler linkage and I'm spot on, I just can't select any gears on the driver's side of the shift tower.

Any suggestions before I have her flat bedded to the shop? Car is stuck at a friends.

Thanks!

Mike

check the linkages and coupler. After that, you may need to open up the tranny.

Rear coupler is adjusted properly. Is there another linkage that I should check? Where is the spring that gets pushed in to engage reverse located?

Thanks!

It is underneath the shifter, inside the shift housing. You access it by removing whatever middle console you have and then pull up the carpet.

When you start the car and release the clutch, is the car in reverse or neutral?

Take off the small rectangular cover on the side of the transmission and see if the bracket is tight and attached.
