Question about Muffler Mounting

I am installing / fabricating a new muffler as part of my 3.2 Turbo conversion and had a question for the experts. I currently have the muffler tacked up and the edge/end is sitting only about an inch from the lower valance. I wasn't too worried about the valance, but was afraid the heat may do bad thing to the lower end of the rubber bumper pad.

Does anyone know if this type of clearance will cause any damage?

wrap it in heat tape. theres not a lot of room back there
