Headlight pops off

I have H1s on my 1973.5 - always worked great, but recently I noticed that one was loose.

I took it out and then put it back on over the top tab. The tightened the screw at the bottom.

As soon as the screw begins to tighten, the top of the headlight pops off again - tried 3x.

Thoughts??

Try bending the tab or tabs to get a better fit. They may have slackened a bit over the years.

Top has to be pressed rather firmly "in" and "down"....then, do the bottom screw as you say.
Often-times the rubber gasket is simply too thick. I've had better success using older gaskets that were "set" a bit to a slightly thinner thickness. Extreme case?....trim the gasket thinner. And before you ask.... no... I don't know how you do that !

here is the fix!

Now this I know about ! Had the same problem on my 68 912. Get some brass shim stock at the hardware store - 050 or even 025. Make a couple 1" strips and bend them into a "U" cross section so they fit over the "lip" on the fender - the headlight flange. position them at the 11 and 1 oclock position. Make sure the inner radius of the "U" is a good close fit on the lip or flange. Use some fine pliers to get them to fit nice and tight. You just want to increase the radius of the flange a little tiny bit.

Now fit your headlight - and presto - it will pop on there like the lid on a tupperware !
