Oil level sensor connection wire

I'm a bit lost with the wire connecting to the level sensor on the oil tank. Which kind of wire, where is it connected in the engine compartment? I've basically lost the wire and cannot find the drawing in the PET :(. Tx

You have two wires at the oil level sensor
located on the outer side of the oil tank,
behind the passenger side rear wheel.

Look for a connector on the oil tank.

Wire(s), one is white, the other is white brown (gnd).

Good luck,

Gerry

Tx but my wires are gone, MIA. I refurbished my tank, got a new sensor, engine out etc. Now I have a really good looking tank but no idea which kind of wire goes on it and where it should be going inside the engine compartment.

Garp,

The oil level sender wires are routed from the main wiring harness through the male portion of the multi-pin plug for the right rear tail light (inside the engine compartment). From the female side of the multi-pin plug (now talking about the outside of the engine comartment the appropriate wires are connected to the oil level sender on the inside face of the oil tank.

Check the wires near the right rear tail light you may find that the wires are still there. If not, they may have bee cut off (this happens all too often when 911's get painted by people that don't do them often). If you can splice into the cut off portions fine. If not the harness is available from Porsche. Since you have PET you should have the part number.

At what point in time/your work did you disconnect the oil tank sensor harness?

I'm certain that the harness is still on the car and can be located in the following manner:

According to my Bentley manual, the white wire goes directly to your oil level gauge
through the wiring channel from the rear to the front of the car.

The brown wire goes to grounding point G414 which is located on the inside of the
passenger right rear fender in the engine compartment.

Find the grounding point and the harness ground wire will be there.

Follow the brown wire to the connector.

Good luck,

Gerry
