Cause of sticking throttle

I learned the cause from this forum, but I'd just thought I'd post it as a reminder of what the solution is.

My throttle started hanging up at 2,000-3,000 rpm as soon as the car got warm, and I re-greased all my carb and throttle linkages, took the floorboard off and lubed the throttle pedal linkage, nothing helped.

Then I loosened the throttle linkage that pivots on a post on the left side of the transmission--couldn't get it fully off because it hits the SSIs before getting full clearance--and it was obviously the cause: sticky, obvious resistance to movement. Apparently when the transmission gets warm and transmits heat to the post and it expands, it gets even worse.

Cleaned everything I could reach with brake cleaner, wire-brushed some rust on the post, applied some high-temp aircraft grease and now it moves slicker 'n snot, as a Virginian friend is fond of saying.

+1. I had the same problem recently as well, and remembered a thread about it. Jacked her up, cleaned her up and greased her up...she's a happy camper now.

I'm willing to bet that this particular problem crops up every summer almost as much as "Why Are My Oil Temps So High?".

Damn I have the exact same problem and had just concluded it must be heat related because it only happens when the car is fully warmed up. Steve, thanks for doing the research and posting. This will be my weekend project!
