1972 911 colors

I know there has been a few write ups about this topic lately but none seem to satisfy what I am looking for.

I would like to see pictures of your actual early 911 cars with different colors.

Mine was originally tangerine or blood/orange, I am not sure this is what color I am looking to paint it back to. I am kinda looking at signal yellow or signal orange.

I am also open to other color suggestions so if you guys could post pictures of your cars in those colors and other I would love to see them.

Thanks

Ben

Polo Red always looks nice on a early car with all the chrome!

Frankly, I'd suggest you stick with the original color code. That said, here's original "Irish Green"...by original, I mean original...not a repaint.

I would except the left front fender was crushed in and the car had already been repainted on a couple of different body panels.

now half the car is in flat black. Also I have a guy that does awesome at restoring cars and he is going to paint it for me.

I feel your pain. Wife and I are fixin a 71 originally a pastel blue. Now pastel blue would not be our first choice for paint but I have seen on this site variences of the original colors. "Toned down" signal yellow or metallics that were not originally metallics. I think that is the direction we decided to go with our car. Pastel blue with a bit of the bite removed.
The gallery helped us tremendously. In my opinion, the unique paint colors of the autos era are indeed a part of what makes the car's enjoyable conversation.
My only experience prior to our 911 was with mopars. In that circle it was plum crazy, torrid red, bahaman yellow, ivy green, rootbeer brown and the infamous hemi orange. When you see those colors on the road you knew a cool old mopar was in sight. I think the same applies to the porsches.
What I think happens is when a non car person (in this case my parents) see small examples of the original paint and you tell them that is direction you are headed and they go "oh", you must have the inner strength to continue. Hence, I feel your pain.

Really, stick with the original color code. Tho I did admire Tom Wilkson's hot rod '73 in Tangerine...also a nice color.

Mike,
Big Thanks for the link. Thats the direction we are going. I lean to the originals not necessary original to the car but era porsche colors. We are long time away from paint but it's fun to dream. Links like those help pacify.

I love these threads. Lots of pics and just beautiful cars.

Curt

Does anyone have the PINK shaded color. My 72 was originally this color but had to change it to Guards red. Otherwise the wife would only drive it.

That's blood orange all right! It changes shade depending on light. In bright sunlight, it's really orange. In dimmer light, it takes on a darker orange hue.

My was originally painted tangerine, then the PO sprayed it some form of red, and then i sprayed it Gelb Green. I have to say, I had MANY sleepless nights deciding between orange and green and finally went with green but i still do like the orange a lot!

Tangerine is one of my favorite colors on a long-hooded 911.

I went with my car's original silver, but to do over again, I would change the color to Tangerine.

Not much is original on my car, why not change the color, too?

One of the very earliest '72s is a 911T Sporto coupe that was originally Fraise. It was much discussed over at the Early S Registry: http://www.early911sregistry.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13484&highlight=fraise+sporto (thread includes several pics of Fraise cars, the one below is not the one discussed)

and is now being restored as an ST replica in its original color by Nick Moss & co. in the UK: http://www.early911.co.uk/html/st.html.

Hope this helps,
Ed
