I've got a 76 911S coupe with a sunroof. The car is in great shape with a new headliner. It is however missing the sun visors and parking clips. I've got a set of good used visors with the clips. The clips have screws, which appears to be readily available sheet metal screws. The mounting flanges for the visors do not have screws.
1)Are the screws for the visors the same as for the clips? 2)Are the placement pins for the clips inboard (towards the middle of the roof) or outboard (on the side of the doors). 3)Also, any ideas to help locate the mounting holes for the visors and the clips (currently hidden under headliner). I am new to Porsche restoration and have not got a mental visual on what is under the liner. If any of you have a photo of the the interior roof elements sans the liner it would be helpful in avoiding unnecessary holes in the new headliner. I've searched the threads and have been unsuccessful in finding anything on this specific subject . Thanks, Fred |

Just replaced mine a few months ago and from what I remember here goes--
#1--I think the screws for the visors are a little longer then the clips #2--More outboard - drivers side is just above the R/V mirror and to the left. As I recall about on inch above the headliner. I removed my old and couldn't find the hole "no pun" used a scratch all to find them. #3-- Visors connect above the door piller and about 3 inches up. Again tough to find if they are not removed by you. Hope this helps

Thanks Ernie. Confirming mounting bracket screws are "sheet metal" screws only longer than the clip screws?

I'd suggest following Erines guide on location of the clip as a first step as the headliner is very close to the sheet metal and you may gently probe in the approximate area and find the hole in the metal without puncturing the headliner. Once you mount the clip, put the visor into the clip to locate the approximate position of the mounting holes for the base. I'd suggest you study closely pictures of where the base is mounted, and the angle of the base (sorry, I don't have any available but hopefully someone will post some.) It will be in an area where the headliner is a bit further from the sheet metal, but you can still carefully probe--maybe even with a finger tip--to feel where the hole is. IIRC, the metal arm of the visor that has the spring around it, fits into a large hole which you can easily feel by pressing gently. The mounting holes for the screws will be on either side, but you have to get the angle of the mounting plate correct.

Ok, I just went out and found all the holes and installed my visors and clips. Here are a few pix to help those in the future. I started by finding the large holes at the top of the A Pillar for the base of the visors. Looking for them reminded me of high school...but thats another story. Anyway, find them and make the hole just slightly large enough to push in the visor so that it keeps the headliner tight. No need to make a big hole. After that it is simple to find the 2 mounting holes if you just rotate the mount so that it is sitting like mine in the pictures. After that, just locate the other clips in the center and start feeling for the holes. The locating tab will go in the larger of the holes that you feel. It honestly only took a few minutes once I started. I hope this helps.
