Help with throw out arm removal
I'm using the tech article "Clutch Cable / Helper Spring Replacement & Adjustment" and have made it all the way to the throw out arm removal, the small arm is off but I can't get the throw out lever off the shaft! Any tips or tricks out there? Is there some pin the article didn't mention? It turns on the shaft so it's not frozen, but will absolutely not slide down off the shaft. Will appreciate any suggestions.

79 SC.....I see something that looks like a possible pin...the exploded diagrams don't show it and the tech article doesn't mention it though.

Looks like you've already gotten an answer, but, YES, on the earlier SC's there is a friction fit pin that must be driven out with a drift to allow the arm to be removed. Apparently this pin was later considered unnecessary and omitted after, approximately, mid-year '79. I posted a description of this about a week ago after I ran into the same problem you're having. I found info on this sparse and difficult to find.

Thanks...it's not the one that vash indicated as #3, as it's in the throw out arm #13, the hole shows in the exploded diagram..just not the pin. There was no mention of it in the Tech Article so I was prying and banging around on the arm. It wasn't "sliding right off" !
It was gunked over on mine. After vash confirmed a pin I cleaned it and it was obvious. Helper spring is replaced and arm back in place. Thanks for the info though. |
