Dirty gas tank? Remove the sending unit (under the carpet near the brake booster and filler pipe from the gas filler cap that connects to the top of the gas tank) for the gauge and look through the opening with a flashlight... The sending unit has five small nuts, and pulls straight up from the tank - do it slowly so its tube can drain as you remove it.

How would the heater hose catch on fire? Can bad / arcing cause that?
My bet is that the problem is ignition related rather than CIS related based on what I have read so far. |
i think it leaned out it also made the rear bumper very hot

I'll bet you burnt your rotor you need to get one without a resistor. Search "rotor". Your MSD has a much hotter spark and the original resistor style rotor will burn out, especially if your wires are arcing which I would bet they are. Replace your rotor with a solid one and then run your engine in the dark and look for arcing, you can also listen really close and you can hear clicking if they are arcing. Or, just ;)(really don't do this) run your hand along each wire you'll know when you find it.

well i drained the tank i looked great inside and the strainer was clean. i checked my fuel pressure it was 60 psi 5 less than spec but really shouldnt make that much of a differance but i think i might not be getting volume.also i think the accumulater is fine as i can crack the system when its off the shut it and build pressure back to 30 psi again which is what it is static. i checked my rotor i have the 5 ohm in my car and it is fine. i have a bentley service manual which shows a volume test but i havent tried yet. i forgot to mention that my car idles perfect b ut is a little slow to start.

you said it idles fine? could be sticking plunger in the fuel distributor. did the car sit before you bought it? also check control pressures
|
yes it did sit i think i have to much fuel pressure it now runs better but bogs just off of idle
