Setting dynamic timing on 3.0SC

ok, just got my rebuilt distributor back and replaced it. Thanks to reading on here she fired up first tI'me. I'm going to let her warm up and start to set the tI'ming. my only issue is i could not see the Z1 marking. On the pulley there are 2 pretty close to each other. I assume one is TDC and the other is 5 BTDC...is the one on the right 5 BTDC?? and the one on the left (or CCW) TDC??

Should the vac advance hose go to the front of the throttle body (little "Y" right behind the air box) or to the back..and if so where to on the back??

also is it safe to use Gunter's way of measuring to find 30 BTDC on my 82 3.0 sc and do i measure around CCW??

Your point-distributor comes apart the same way, very sI'milar.
For max advance, measure the distance from Z1 to the other mark in mm, then figure out where 35 mm is on your pulley and make a white mark. Example: If you find 5 mm between the marks, then 35 deg BTDC is 35 mm.
Ron says there should be a mark at 35 deg
Set up the Stroboscope.
Keep the distributor just snug so you can move it.
Remove/plug the vac line.
Warm up the engine and have someone keep it at 6k (I think 5k might be enough) while you point the Stroboscope at the pulley.
Move the distributor until the white mark co-incites with the seam in the case.
Let it idle and note where the mark is.
Stop the engine.
Lock the distributor.
If 35 deg is too much, try 30 deg.
Don't get caught in the fan belt.

many thanks

The hose to the dist pod, the way I figure it out is at idle the throttle is closed and the vacuum will be sucking on the hose that is below the butterfly which is the retard at idle for emissions. put the end of the hose on your tongue and you ll feel the vacuum and see the retard when you plug it in.
The other is advance when youre at high RPM and the vacuum is getting you the last of the advance the dist. has.

i put a vac gauge on both of them and watched. the one on the front starts with vac and goes to "0" when i rev it, the one on the back has a little vac and increases when i rev it. i thought that after idle and with no vac the advance was mechanical?

now im lost.....
