'Carrera' script on glovebox?

I was looking at some pictures of an '86 Carrera that's for sale and it had the 'Carrera' script on the glovebox. I've got the Haab book and it specifically says that nothing like this was ever put on the Carrera glovebox. Either the book is in error or this car has a non-OEM glovebox. Anyway, here's a photo of it:

Did Porsche produce a glovebox like this? I've seen loads of Carreras and have never come across this before.

kinda cool....

I also have looked at quite a few Porsches and seen this on only one other car.

On that car, the owner admitted to just putting the adhesive-backed engine lid script on the glove box door. This looks like the same thing.

I would be concerned about getting all of the adhesive residue that may have been absorbed into the glove box door if it the script has been on there awhile. Come to think of it, you don't know what adhesive was used to stick it on. Worst case: either the glovebox door can be cleaned up and (if necessary) touched up with some dye, or it can be replaced.

My thought was, as I had talked about it here at the house, its kinda tacky

Another curious feature:

What the heck is that thing to the right of the clock? I don't know why people feel the need to butcher these beautiful cars...

rfloz 08-15-2009 05:35 PM

Well, I had a Boxster owner tell me my 1984 Carrera wasn't really a Carrera becuase it didn't say "Carrera" anywhere on the car (engine cover "Carrera" script delete option).

Maybe it's to forestall that sort of nonsense.

Now, if I just had a glovebox lid . . .

That looks like a light.

Yup, it's the same light that we have in our cop cars. maybe he needs it for map reading at night....not crazy about the look though.

Please tell me that they are battery powered and easily removed without leaving an unsightly hole behind.

I like the clean look of the script-delete option so much that when I bought my SC I didn't feel the need to run out and replace it as it was not there, either.
There's something so nice about that smooth, uninterupted curve of the engine deck lid.

why doesnt he use the built in factory installed map reading light? (its situated above the glovebox but below the dash)

Peterfrans 09-16-2009 10:41 AM

I parted out a 85 carrera and that had the script on the glovebox (i believe I still have it laying around somewhere, I will have a look).
