Cannot Edit Post - Title Changed

I went to Edit one of my posts, to update the title to reflect the last update date.

I find that the original post does not have the Edit option, but that my later posts to the thread do have the Edit Option.

At what point does the Edit option drop off, as I know have an original thread title that is wrong, but I have no way of changing it :-(

news to me

sometimes Pelican's system is at 1/2 throttle

that's all I know

tonythetarga 08-18-2009 04:04 AM

You can edit text within the post but not the title.

I asked Wayne about this a while back (in regards to my Ultimate Oil Thread). He told me that after some fixed time (6 months?), you will no longer be able to edit an old post.

Jack Olsen 08-18-2009 06:25 PM

Post a link to the thread here and what you want changed, and I'll change it for you.

Highfield 08-18-2009 10:55 PM

Thank you Jack.

Thread is here :-

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/484680-73t-brake-suspension-refurb-part-4-front-install.html

This is my thread that charts the reassembly of my brakes and suspension, and I used to update the Thread's first post Title to include the 'last updated' date.

This is now stuck at the 15th July, so could you please just remove the "- update 15/7' from the end.

I had some people threaten to remove all 12,000 of their posts, which would have made older threads somewhat difficult to read, so I disabled edits after six months to protect against this.

Wayne

This is a great forum, and losing old posts would be a real shame, so understand the Edit Option.

My post is from the 11th July, and when I open it, I just see the 'Quote' button, and no 'Edit' button. Is this just an anomoly as it is not six months old ?

Even in the first six months, users can't edit the actual thread title -- although they can edit the version of that title that appears at the top of their specific post in the thread. I believe only moderators can edit the thread titles once they've been posted.

Hey Wayne, I'd like to edit my thread and update the images as Photobucket blocked 3rd party hosting. A lot of my thread is over 6 months old as I'm moving at a snails pace and editing is currently disabled. Is it possible for me to be given access until I resolve the image issue? My thread suffers from the lack of pictures and I have spent many a late night posting.

Are you trying to edit using the same hardware? I have found on other forums that I can not edit a post unless I am using the same computer/IPad/whatever as the original post, even though I am "signed in." Just a thought

That is not an issue on Pelican.

The photobucket thing is a real shame, killed my engine build thread.

kav 08-30-2017 06:12 PM

Can we have some sort of amnesty on the editing of older posts to fix the outrageous photobucket stance? I refuse to be blackmailed by a company like that.

I don't really understand why anyone would use Photobucket with Pelican when Pelican does a great job of hosting the images right here.
(Of course that doesn't help where the mistake was already made...)

I'm pretty sure when I started my thread Pelican Parts didn't host the images and you had to use third party hosting or I would have gone the easier route.

Hey Kav - email me the photos you want to have put in your thread at lcafiero@pelicanparts.com. Give me the post # and the photos you want in that post. I will update the thread for you.

If you have the images please feel free to send me them and the link to your thread and I'll update yours as well.

gtc 08-31-2017 10:18 AM

Pelican has hosted images since something like 2000.
Resizing and uploading the images one by one is a little inconvenient, but it seems worthwhile now.
