What is the best way to store an intact early 911 engine that is out of the car (oil lines and tank removed? I have drained the oil. Should I fill with clean oil and periodically turn over. All orifices (intake, oil passage openings, etc. have been covered with aluminum foil. The carbs are off and have been drained of fuel.

The Albatross: Here's the story...don't laugh, it's my first time. I have a 66-67 SWB 912 with a '68 911L 2.0L. So technically, a 912-6 (I doubt, but hope, that I coined this). 901 trans. Gorgeous Webers and not so gorgeous 6 inch Cookie Cutters. It also had about 50lbs of bondo and 25lbs of beach sand included included in the deal that was included without me even asking for extras! . The floorpan makes me sad. Laterals, cross member, and cross tube intact; thanks be to the Lord. During a manic state, the car was completely dissasembled; even the wiring harness. Engine and trans are intact. The novelty is gone. I need an automotive stimulus package.

At least one thing that you should consider is fogging all of the cylinders with rebuilding oil. You can buy it in a spray can and remove each of the plugs to fog.

Don't forget to use Stabil or another fuel stabilizer. Some would say to drain the system. Don't know how long your intended storage will be, but if it is for less than a year, I'd probably just stabilize the fuel system and over fill the tires with air, put fresh oil in the engine and run it to circulate through the whole system and then disconnect the battery(s). If you set the car on stands then remove the wheels.

Thanks Vash. I read the first part of the post yesterday and today I read the history of the car without re-reading the top.
The only thing I would say now is to try and store the engine inside a climate controlled building. Exposing it to heat/cold cycles (condensation) can't be good for long term storage.

If you can find a contianer that it will fit in get some large dessicant bags and throw them in with it then seal it up too. That will keep it dry.
