Will an early clock work in an 87 911?

The clock in my 87 911 is not working and is being sent out for repair. I have an old non-quartz clock from (maybe) a 69 or 70 911 that I will be sliding into the space until the original gets back.

Can I plug the original wires into it (safely) to see if it works?

That's what I thought, just wanted to be cautious, though.
