Stock Interior question for 72 911T
I recently picked up a '72 911T that's been in storage for many years and seems to have the original interior in it, but not sure as it is a combination of brown and black leatherette. The door panels, front seat uppers, and dash trim strip are brown, and the front seat lowers, headrests, rear seats, door handles, knee pads, and rear side panels are all black.
My question is - was that interior color combination even a factory option?? The book I have indicated a combination of black and brown leatherette was indeed an option, but seems odd to have front seats with uppers brown and lowers black. Any of you experts out that that might be in the know I would love to hear from you. |

Can't help you on the seats, but here's a stock '72 door panel.

FWIW, my stock seats were brown with Houndstooth centers. I've never seen seats with a Brown top section and a black bottom. Not that that means anything.

I agree...never saw that...seat backs & bottoms matched when they left the factory...as sure of that as I can be. But, like Shuie says...not important. Easily changed.

Black pieces would be: Dash cover, knee pad, door tops, trim under rear quarter windows, rear package shelf (sometimes brown), door pockets, armrests, window cranks. Customers could special order anything, but it just doesn't ring true that the combo you describe came from the factory. Here are a couple of pics of a factory 72 for comparison: ![]() ![]()

Here's a picture of my 72, which has the same colour interior as you, but it has the standard brown seats.
![]() For a different combination, check this advert of this 2.4s for sale over in the UK at the moment, it has black centres with brown sides. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=804995 HTH Rich |
