tachometer and druck press question (with pic).

If i'm running at about 2500 RPM's, what should my druck press read? Is there a rule of thumb?

And to clarify, you're looking at BAR, not PSI. So, (for example), at "3" on the gauge, you're at 3 BAR, or nearly 45 PSI.

Looks fine, but should dip a little once it warms up so if it does that do not freak out.

Porsche Crest From an "1983 Owner's Manual"

krd

Verbatum from the guide: "Oil pressure in the engine is show in bar. With the engine at operating temperature (194F/90C) and the engine speed of 5000 rpm (revolution per minute), the oil pressure should be about 4,0 bar. At this operating stage, the needle in the oil temperature gauge should be at the upper edge of the white-rimmed field. A drop in oil pressure at high temperature is normal. At idle speed, with the engine oil hot, it is normal for the red control light to light up - this does not indicated any loss of engine performance."

I never experience the red light coming on.

Mine used to be all over the place at idling and way past 5 with any revs. A 30 minute cleaning job fix it up (connector and the post at the sending unit). She is now steady with the following results:

1 at 850 rpm
2 at 1550 rpm
3 at 2000 rpm
4 at 3000 rpm
4.5 at 4000 rpm
and barely 5 at 5000 rpm.

My gauge is exhibiting the same symptoms...since I'll be under the next weekend putting in Swepco do you have any photos/info to fix the connector and sending unit to avoid this problem?

Picture fot Testing the Gauges (Oil Pressure & Temperature)

Hi KSUGreggy

It's rather easy to test and clean. A bit harder if you got an A.C. unit installed. Even with my A.C. fitted the bracket kind of stop the connector. I had to pry it sideway, luckily it did not break. From other thread sometime the cable is cooked to a crisp and break.

In the first picture you can see the sending unit with the connect on top. To the lower left of it is another connector for the temperature. with the car nor running, unplug both wire (Pressure & Temperature). Once unplug, turn the ignition on (not staring) and both gauges should deflect all the way up. If you ground the leads, they should deflect all the way down.

I clean the post and the inside of the connector put it back on the post and it work like a charm.

Cheer

Cool Second Picture

Pictures with the connectors removed and cleaned. On my car, when I put the Pressure connector back it seem loose but worked properly.

Temp shows you at ~90C, which is where mine resides 95% of the time (once warmed up) so I wouldn't expect the pressure/rpm ratio to change much from where you are. Might drop if you idle in traffic for a long time and temps creep up, but as everyone has already pointed out, the pressure looks in the "normal" range.

Why when you misplace something is it always found the last place you look? Because you stop looking after you've found it

NOTE: druck=pressure in German so if your saying "druck pressure" your saying pressure pressure
and it's in bars not psi......you have been schooled

I've seen few that exhibit linear behavior..I'm looking to check my connections at meter's rear (as I've changed my sensor out)...it's time to have a look behind the gauge (and the gauge, itself).

Best,

Doyle
