Kremer ST Re-creation
In a PM I was asked to put some pics of my 72 Kremer ST Re-creation on this BBS. (There is a thread on EarlySRegistry documenting the project.) It is based on a Euro 72T, just as the original car is, has a 2.5L twin plug MFI engine, and is shown with both 10x15 BBS and 11x15 Fuchs rears, fronts are 9x15 Fuchs. (Kremer used both setups.) The project took about 2 1/2 years, and was a real learning experience to research the details of what the Kremer Racing folks did with this private entry into the Euro GT class events. The original car is shown in action below, driven by John Fitzpatrick...it won the European GT competition in 72 and the Porsche Cup.
I took the car to Monterey this year and did a parage lap with it...pic below. Man! Nice re-creation! Hard to spot any differences other than things like decal size!
Is there any explanation for the shape of the "1" in the roundel? |
Here's the Monterey Historics parage lap picture, plus a few others. It has twin front oil coolers tucked into the fenders, and hard cross over lines to connect them in series.

It is a #1

Nice. I followed it on earlyS. Love the thru-the-body hard oil lines and psychedelic paintwork.

Even the 1:43rd model has this type of #1. Gib http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1250813411.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1250813589.jpg |
Down in front pal, we're trying to watch a boxing match  :D

What green is that? Viper??
|
I've always loved the ST flares...

Yes, it is viper green. The red is Bahia, and the yellow is a custom mixture beginning with light yellow. I felt painting the 'psychedelic' shapes was more authentic as I think the Kremer boys were probably enjoying tipping a few one night and decided to have Klaus paint it that way. Decals would have been too sobering. 911 ST-replica
..what a gorgeous car! Definetly one of the few that stood out @ 911 coral saturday. I wish I could have a car like this...maybe one day. ;)

Gib,
Way cool. Did I almost buy a 74 MFI RS from you some years back? If so, probably the second dumbest I think I did not do right after selling my 72S that I built to factory Sport Purposes 2.4S spec. If that was you, good to see you sill have the affliction. Keith in Sacramento. |
Keith:
That was me....and selling that Mexico Blue 74 Euro Carrera with 2.7 RS MFI engine was one of the dumbest things I ever did. 'Wish I had that one back'...as old George Strait would sing. Your 72S was a neat car, couldn't understand why you wanted to sell it....but we all do it. Then it's like that girl in high school that you could never quite get to like you....it haunts you for a long, long time. Gib |
Thought so!

Love the car. That one has alwas been a fav!
|
You did a outstanding job Gib! I was at the Monterey this year for the 1st time. What a pleasure to see so many great looking cars.SmileWavy

surely takes some stones to put paint on that all green beauty! i think i'd have frozen for a few months and needed counseling to move forward.
looks fantastic! |
Awesome car - so well done on so many different levels

The MFI system was tuned using a fuel-air system made by FAST (Fuel Air Systems Technology). Best way is to tune it at a track, and a favorite for me is the Arroyo Seco track just off I-10 near Deming, NM. By reading the A/F ratio from both sides throughout the various rpm and load changes, you can get a good balance on the injection pump main rack setting. I also adjusted the small screws behind the idle plate near the bottom of the pump to get more upper rpm power because the injection pump has a custom space cam, and the engine cam is a GE 60...neither one factory items. The 2.5L makes approx. 250-260 hp with 10.5 CR pistons.
