New to the group, and 911's, and here's my first question
I've been lurking here for a while reading and learning, like everyone. And I have to say I am blown away by the knowledge and the, "nothing gets past us" attitude that I've been taking in. Hopefully someone can be so kind as to drop some of that knowledge on my problem. I have a 1974 911 with an 83 SC motor in it, and what I thought was a 915 transmission. I went this morning to change the transmission fluid, and that's where I got confused. Leading up to this I read up on every post I could about doing this job: how hard the bolts are to get out, using Swepco 201, pull fill plug before drain plug. So I get under the car armed with my 17mm long handle allen key, and for the life of me, there is NO allen bolt anywhere of consequence to be found on this transmission. The bolt on the bottom that HAS to be the drain plug is a normal "oil pan" type drain plug, as well as the bolt on the driver's side of the tranny, that I am guessing must be the fill plug. Both the bolts seem to be exactly the same size. Is it likely that someone just took the hex bolts out and replaced them with these, or is it something different altogether? Needless to say I am a paranoid bastard and came up here immediately before even attempting to turn them. Thanks for any info!

The PO likely replaced the bolt at some point in time. This is not uncommon.

Yep, someone probably did you a favor and put a regular one in there.
They're the same size, but the one on the bottom is magnetic.

Welcome to the board Hotwater. If you're not sure what tranny you have, do this simple check.... The 915 has a clutch actuated by a cable, which is clearly visible when you look at the tranny. The G50 would have a 'juice' clutch.
