Power Window Electrical Problem--1987 911 Cab I've read the numerous posts on this, swapped out with new parts, checked my Bentley guide--both the windows section and the wiring diagram--and still can't get the driver's side switch for the passenger's side window to work. I overhauled my doors this weekend--repainted the door handles, fixed rattles, fixed the door cards, etc., and fixing the window switches is my last task. I do not have a voltmeter or any other means of testing the wires. I currently have both windows working but only with the switches in their respective doors. The Bentley wiring diagram has the following for the driver's side passenger window switch wiring: 1 - Red / White 2 - Red / Black 3- Single Red / Blue 4 - Brown 5- Double Red / Blue I also see that "3" and "5" are jumpered together. When I look at the wiring in my door, both Red / Blue pairs are "single" red--I can't tell the difference between them to determine which is "3" and which is "5". How can I tell? I swapped them around and blew the fuse for the power windows. Is there a connector somewhere in this wiring? If the fuse, switches, and window motor all are good but the one switch won't operate the window, I'm leaning towards something not being connected. If so, where should I check? Anyone have a picture? Thanks, David http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251059109.jpg |

Here is a picture of how the passenger window switch is wired, in the driver's side door: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251064676.jpg It's also possible that your issue is caused by one of the other switches being slightly miswired. I would guess the passenger side one, if this is the case. Here's a pic of how the passenger side window switch is wired: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1251065066.jpg |

I just looked at the Bentley manual - it has #1 and #2 swapped from what my car has. 1 should be red/white, 2 should be red/black. I'll bet that's what you need to fix. In fact, all 3 of the Bentley wiring assignments are different from my actual ones. They swapped 1 and 2 for the driver's side window also, and 3 and 5 are swapped for the passenger side switch. My car's an '86, but I don't think that makes any difference. |

According to the Bentley, red/white and red/black are common to the passenger's side switch, and, if swapped at that location your windows will work. I don't think that transposing the red/blue on #'s 3&5 on either or both switches will cause any issues as those are the power wires (from fuse # 1) which are looped to both switches. As long as there is power to 3&5 on both driver's side switches, and all else is properly connected (including the passenger switch) the windows should work. I had the driver's panel off last week, both switches are wired as per the Bentley and the switches work properly. Gerry |
