problem going to 1st it goes to reverse
 

Hi my car is a 5 sp 89 .When i put the car on first sometimes it goes to reverse . It does not take much effort to put to reverse so instead of goind to 1st it will end up in reverse. it there an easy part to replace in the shfiter otr I have to go in the trans?

i had a prob like this before but it was more like it's stuck in reverse. all i did was keep changing between 5th and reverse and it popped back out. hasn't happened since.

Sounds like a linkage adjustment problem more than anything. I've got a project on this in my 101 Projects book...

or will read it .but what part of the trans make the click to pass in reverse<the part that makes the resistance when you push to go in reverse.
