This is the one on San Diego cl. I also emailed about it bc numbers seemed wrong. I think (someone pls correct me) the 611xxxx is for a '71 (http://www.elferhelfer.com/fzident/fzident70-71.htm), but I don't think the number is correct in the ad. Also, I think the 930 number is an engine part, not engine type # casting on the case.

I'd ask for photos of engine serial number AND engine type castings.

I was just looking at pics from the 2 posts...plug wires are different - yellow on the 2.7, black on the ??. Theory unraveling. :confused:

My Spanish is horrid, and the two men involved only speak Spanish. But what I can figure so far:
The engine is sitting in his front yard, with no intake. They used the intake on a 911 that is in Tijuana. I speculate the engine came from a breaker yard near Tijuana.

I have a bilingual friend in San Diego that might go look at it for me, and get the real numbers off of it, as well as turn it over by hand, and pull the drain plug to look for bearing chunks.

Everything else is a crap shoot. Ya gotta kiss a lot of frogs before ya find the prince... Especially when you are looking for a 911 engine on the cheap.

Nope I'm wrong.
I now think that was his original engine that he yanked and replaced with a 3.2L....
Finding out now...

I think it's his 1971 engine, because it does not have the Carrera fed tensioner oil lines that I can see.

No turbo valve covers either.

Through a translator, I found out that the pictured engine is the original 2.2L he took out of his 71 911, and replaced with a 3.2L.
It's still sitting exposed to the environment, but in the desert of San Diego that's much better than the rain forest of Seattle. Though still not what I would consider the proper way to store an engine.
