1. Unplugged my O2 sensor and the surging I was experiencing disappeared. O2 Duty Cycle fluctuates between 40 and 50 degrees (on a dwell meter) regardless of whether the O2 sensor is plugged in. I don't get it, but it runs better with the O2 unplugged.
2. The spark plug wire rebuild is complete and works great. Many thanks to John Walker's Workshop for the breakthrough tip on part numbers. Total cost of spark plug wire rebuild, including new Bosch distributor end connectors: about $50. The Bosch dist. end connectors were fine though, and I should have reused them. 3. A recent Panorama carried an article on turbo evolution. A statement in that article made it sound like the new "996-based GT2...delivering...480 hp...2750-pounds...", is not as fast as the Vipers. Say it ain't so, Joe! 4. Drove to Wenatchee and back recently, which involved two trips over Snoqualmie and Blewitt passes. Gentlemen, this car is a mountain pass EATER. Hillclimbs must be a blast in these things. Going to Port Angeles, perhaps this evening. Yippeee! ------------------ '83 SC |

Big-S, back in the early 80's the lambda add-on CIS was found in many cars besides your 911. A very common problem was the lean surge. The cure was to bypass the lambda and richen the fuel disributor just a bit if needed. This is why your car runs better without the O2 sensor hooked up. On later FI systems the O2 sensor had more function than just to lean out the idle for the smog police.
